Why it matters

Build the skill, master the method, choose the right partner.

Why learn carbon accounting?

Carbon accounting is no longer a niche expertise. As regulations tighten (CSRD, CBAM, national reduction targets) and clients, investors and supply chains increasingly demand verified emissions data, organisations that rely entirely on external consultants are exposed: high costs, no knowledge transfer, and transition plans that gather dust.

Building internal carbon literacy is the most durable investment you can make. The skills your organisation develops today will remain relevant for decades, and will make every future engagement with a consultant faster, sharper and more effective.

With carbon accounting, you acquire a core business competency to retain clients, build resilience, and contribute to a pathway toward climate stabilisation.

02

Why use the Bilan Carbone® method?

The Bilan Carbone® method, developed in France and refined over 20 years, remains one of the most comprehensive carbon accounting frameworks available.

Where the GHG Protocol excels as an international accounting standard, the Bilan Carbone® goes further: it covers Scope 3 exhaustively (including depreciated assets over their full lifetime), integrates a built-in transition plan, and structures uncertainty analysis post by post so you know exactly where to focus data-collection efforts.

The two approaches are complementary: the Bilan Carbone® V9 results are fully interpretable against GHG Protocol, ISO 14064-1 and CSRD reporting requirements.

Whether you already work with the GHG Protocol and want to go further into transition planning and Scope 3 granularity, or you are starting out and need a rigorous yet immediately operational framework, the Bilan Carbone® method gives you the rigour and cross-standard compatibility that today's market demands.

03

Why train with IFC.D?

IFC.D has trained thousands of professionals in the Bilan Carbone® methodology. Our instructors are certified practitioners with hands-on experience across industrial, service and public-sector organisations.

Each programme is designed to be immediately operational: from day one, participants are introduced to the Bilan Carbone® V9 tool and the ADEME Base Empreinte®, the reference emission factor database, which IFC.D maintains in English for international learners.

Acquire the method, the tool, and the know-how to use them in the real world.
